So.Tel EMS is based on sensors that measure environmental parameters (temperature, humidity and light) and the current powering electronic equipment, and actuators (switches and dimmers) that regulate the operation of devices and equipment. Sensor and actuator nodes communicate over low-power and reliable wireless mesh networks based on the ZigBee standard, which allows connectivity of a large number of nodes with low installation and management cost.
The ZigBee stack allows
- optimization of node battery life
- secure communication
- robust communication towards interference
- interoperability with nodes from different vendors
In addition to the sensor and actuator nodes that operate as ZigBee End Devices, So.Tel EMS includes a ZigBee Coordinator node that performs also the role of gateway between the ZigBee network and the Internet, and ZigBee Routers that extend the network coverage by enabling multi-hop communication between the End Devices and the Coordinator.
The gateway node between the ZigBee network and the Internet and the So.Tel EMS application software platform allow to access the data measured by the sensors, issue commands to the actuators and manage the ZigBee network also from remote terminals.
